Git'n it done

Meet Kelly Bob, mother to 5 lovely white babies and one adorable brown one, as seen in previous posts.

So. The weather here has been crappy. I don't like for it to be much below freezing or much above 78 degrees. At least not for long. That is my dream, anyway. The liquid propane tank is down to 50 gallons. What is the price for a refill? My allergies suck donkey dicks and I fell down the barn stairs yesterday - only from the fourth from bottom step but still. I had jiggly brain and a big ass bruise on my big ass. Ow!

The camera wires have been gnawed through by Heizen so I cannot post photos. I may have to scan a few gems from years past to keep this thing interesting. If this is interesting in the first place.

I did good today; paying bills, mopping floors, going to town for medz, even mailing said bills. And I am working still on the new shawl. Yawn.

Babies are all doing GREAT! Even the runt! Eyes are open, ears are rising, and the little guys are starting to scout about. Need to bring in larger cages soon, like tomorrow, because in a week, the babies will be on their own for the most part. They'll need room to run. Hard to imagine that all this takes place in three weeks. From hairless pinkies to big -earred fuzzys. And mom can breed the day after giving birth. Ask me how I know.

Noseless Harry is doing great, too. The flesh wounds have pretty much healed and all I am doing is keeping his nostril infection in check.

Progress is being made behind the scenes on my web site. Once I get the camera back, I hope to have some Fuzzarelly Fibers for sale. Wish me luck.

ALL BUNNIES ALL THE TIME

The weather has kept me inside this week. The weather and my agoraphobia. Just me and the bunnies. Seventeen in the house and nineteen outside. It's kinda fun, though, having so many living things in the house. Spiders don't count. (Except to eight, Sweetie says.)

Most everybody is just fine. Harry is slowly improving. His appetite is good and he's running around.

I worry about Precious' runt - at two ounces he's half the size of her other kits and he can't compete for titty against the bigger ones. I have been giving him separate nipple time and today I began supplementing his diet with newborn kitten formula.

Kelly Bob's children, on the other hand, are thriving. The pretty brown one weighs in at 6 ounces!

Their eyes should be open by the Sunday, and their little ears will be standing up 2 or 3 days after that.

FUZZA-PILLAR

VOILA! The original Hookah-smoking caterpillar.

(Never leave a family member alone with a funny picture of oneself and Photoshop.)

DR. FUZZARELLY, MEDICINE WOMAN

I'm so glad I don't have a life. There are seventeen bunnies inside my house as I type this. Plus two cats and a dog. Heizen loves being inside.

This morning I brought in Harry from the barn, one of the "little guy" rescues. He's an eight-year-old Netherland dwarf whose child owners had grown exceedingly tired of caring for. Even though he is 8, an old age for a rabbit, he is still full of testosterone and will fight any available male. As will Percival, who runs free in the barn. He bit Harry's nose very badly through the cage wire sometime last night. Bad as in there is not much nose left. Harry was in shock, I believe, when I found him - crouching, twitching and bleeding.

Good news is that he's doing much better this afternoon. I cleansed the wound and applied anti-robotic. And held and loved on him. He's swallowed some water and ate a little mashed banana. He's moving around and twitching less. I wasn't sure this morning, but now I think he will survive.

A little while ago, I brought in Kelly Bob and her five babies. I noticed this morning that the kits were not toasty warm (it has been so freaking cold here!) and decided that if they were still chilly this afternoon, they were coming inside. Even if it hadn't been so freaking cold!, I most likely would have brought them in soon, in order to socialize them to people. I also replaced with her the baby that I had brought inside soon after birth. The chilled one that I had placed with Precious. He's such a pig! A blimp! Drinking so much of her milk that some of the runts need extra nipple time.

Anyway.

I am knitting away on the new shawl, between bunny duties. I have totally rewritten the original directions, replacing the original un-intuative graph with more understandable (to me) symbols. As in, making the graph actually resemble the finished piece. If one is a blind follower, the original directions would pose no problem. I, however, like some sort of realistic depiction of what I am working on. For example, maintaining the center stitch, relative to the previous and following rows. Such a small thing. Rather slow going, as I am graphing as I go - but progress is being made.

Flowering Bunnies

Mostly pictures tonight. Had a nice trip to Cincinnati Friday to the Art Museum. Also went to the Conservatory and was delighted by the spring flowers abloom.

Here I am as the non-hookah smoking caterpillar. I hate it when they clean up things for the kids. When I was a kid, I loved the dirty bits. Didn't you?

Precious has runts among the bigguns. She nibbled the ear off one of the little ones , but I think he will live. Does anyone besides me remember Matt Groening's cartoon strip called Life in Hell? And the mono-earred bunnies? Here is a shot of a biggun and the little one-earred runt. I hope he makes it. I mean, he looks healthy enough, but one never knows, having had an ear nibbled off and all.

Here is a shot of Kelly Bob's kids. One can see the different colored baby. Genetics are always of interest.

Addendum: The one-earred bunny is named Bongo, love child of Binky (and the cat, Hegla) and step child of Sheba. Life in Hell is still being published in numerous independent newpapers!

HOUSTON, WE HAVE BUNNIES...

I found this link on Franklin's blog. (Oooh, what a lot of html I just did! Ain't I the shit?)

She describes depression quite nicely and is such a better writer than me. Well, you know, she desires to be a writer, after all, so I certainly hope she is a better writer than me. I can probably flat pattern better than her. So there. (My self esteem is just fine - today.) Go ahead and spend a half hour reading her blog. And bookmark her. Send her comments to keep her writing.

So here is my admission of selfishness. After little Holly got strangled, I purposely bred six bunnies in order for me to have some babies, dammit! To be born, of course, just when the temperatures decide to plummet. Dammit!

Precious had her litter first. Born yesterday - January 30. Being an amateur, she didn't nest, but had them on the wire, as it were, and I was fortunate to have found them in time. The eight small kits could be clones - they are all dark skinned with a whitish blaze on their foreheads. I brought them inside with mom, (what's nine more bunnies in the house, after all?) made them a nest, and all is okay so far.

The lineage: Fuzzarelly (agouti) begat Spot. Spot (English broken) begat Shemp. Shemp (black) begat Precious. And Precious (German white) begat this litter with Percival's help.

Tonight, Kelly Bob (German white, daughter of Yoshimi) delivered several white babies, with Fuzzy Bob's help. (He is brother to Fuzzarelly, and also agouti.) One was cold on discovery, so I warmed him and then placed him with Precious' litter. Kelly Bob has proved to be an excellent mother, so I am letting her stay in the barn with her kits for the time being.

Babies, babies, babies! I'm delighted!

Knitting wise, I unraveled several rounds of the shawl in order to make the pattern more suitable for me. Here it is just before the great unknitting. I am pleased with the yarn and the pattern, actually. Spent tonight recharting part of the old and my new pattern, which was actually fun! Yes, I am a knitting nerd.
